Bhiwani

History

Bhiwani is a city created on 22nd December 1972 in the state of Haryana, India. The city was named by a Rajput King Neem after his wife named Bhani. The Bhani word later changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani. It has around 442 villages with main towns being Charkhi, Loharu, Bewani Khera, Dadri and Tosham. The district headquarter is also situated in Bhiwani itself. It has been a prominent center of commerce since the time of the Mughals. It is known as city of temples and 'Small Kashi' of India as it has more than 300 temples in this city.

Transportation

Bhiwani junction is a major railway station in this region. It has three lines first line is towards northern side connecting cities like Hansi, Hisar, Sirasa, Bhatinda ,Ferozpur, Gurgaon and Delhi. The second line is towards southern side connecting Charkhi Dadri, Kosli, Rewari and Jaipur -Alwar and the third is towards Rohtak connecting to Delhi. Even by roadways it is well connected through state transport to all major towns in this region. To reach this place by flight connectivity from Delhi is most convenient.

Places to Visit

Bhiwani being the spiritual place has numerous temples such as famous Sri Hari Har temple , Jain temple in Ranila Village, Maa Durga temple in Devsar Dhaam, Baba Jyotram Temple in Badala Village, huge "Shiv Temple" in Badala, Shiv mandir, Radha krishna Madir, Devi ka mandir etc.

Late Capt. Hawa Singh, the legendary boxer, helped establish the Bhiwani Boxing Club a boxing academy which has emerged as major centre of Indian Boxing. It is also known as India's boxing power house.

Bhiwani is a hometown of renowned Freedom Fighters and Social Reformers. Besides being a spiritual place of learning it has been a platform of regional politics too. Three chief ministers of Haryana have been from the same region they are Bansi Lal, Banarsi Dass Gupta and Hukum Singh. There were many freedom fighters such as Neki Sharma, Uma Sharma, Ram Kumar, Gokul Chand, Fateh Chand, Lala Vith, Lala Karanji, Diwan Chand, Lala Moda etc. from India's seeker of Freedom Society who took part in Bardoli Satyagraha held in1922 among them Neki Sharma was later honored as Haryana Kesri.

Education

A prestigious Birla Group has established the best Textile Research Institute, The Technological Institute of Textile and Sciences. There are about Four Engineering colleges, Four Degree Colleges, Three colleges of Education and a School of Nursing. The Haryana Shiksha Board is also situated in Bhiwani.
