Cuttack Tour

One of the twin cities of Orissa, Cuttack was formerly the political as well as commercial capital of the state. The city is more than a millennium old which is established around the ancient Barabati Fort. The city is situated in the centre of delta of Mahanadi River at an altitude of 14.62 metres above the sea level. Tributaries of Kathjori, the Kuakhai and the Birupa embrace the city on almost all sides.

In summers temperatures can touch a 40�C mark and may dip below 10�C in winter. Being aesthetic capital it is visited by many tourists every year. Cuttack has everything.....right from temples to mosque to museums to parks to theatres for entertainment to libraries!!! And most importantly Cuttack houses Oriya film industry.

Religious places in Cuttack

The religious places of Cuttack include temples for Hindus, mosques for Muslims, churches for Christians and Gurudwara for Sikh.

Paramahansa Nath temple near Biribati, Katak Chandi Temple, Bhattarika Temple, Dhabaleswar temple, Panchamukhi Hanuman temple and Gada Chandi temple in Barabati fort are the famous Hindu places of worship. The hanging bridge connecting the site of Dhabaleswar temple to the city is unique and attractive in its own way.

Sikhs holy shrine 'Gurdwara Daatan Sahib' bears a story behind it which says Shree Guru Nanak Dev when on his way to Puri halted here and planted the tree branch that he used to clean his teeth; hence forth the place is called Daatan Sahib.

Cuttack has many churches also like the holy rosary church, Oriya Baptist church etc.

Cuttack also hosts of various mosques namely, the eternal beauty Qadam-E-Rasool built by Shujaddin Khan, Juma masjid, Shahi mosque in the Barabati fort and the Ujale Khan mosque.

Sports

Cuttack is a loved place for cricket enthusiasts as Barabati Stadium here is an important venue for international cricket matches. Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium and Satyabrata stadium also offers a wide range of sporting activities like athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, and gymnastic. Cuttack has a branch of sports authority of India (SAI) training centres which is constantly putting efforts to polish the sporty gems.

Stone Revetment

The stone revetment at the banks of river in Cuttack is an example of engineering marvel of the 11th century A.D. Orissa.

Barabati Fort

Now only the ruins of this nine-storied medieval fort with its moat and gate on the bank of the river Mahanadi are seen.

Kanika Library, deer park, Biju-Pattnaik park, Freedom Fighter's Memorial and Netaji museum or Janakinath Bhawan are also worth visiting.

Shopping in Cuttack

Though Cuttack is famous for its arts and crafts work but it does not have any major industry. It is a great place for shopping in the state. The shopper can choose from a range of artistic pieces to gift...whether it is silver filigree or horn item or brass work or may it be silk and cotton textiles.

The famed and beautiful Silver filigree is the oldest crafts in the city thus earning the status of Silver City to Cuttack.

Articles made from animal horns are another traditional art work of Cuttack.
