Hoshiarpur Destinations

Hoshiarpur shares a common boundary with Kangra and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh to the northeast. This place of Punjab has a mild climate compared to other districts in this state due to abundance of hilly terrain and forest cover in and around Hoshiarpur. The local climate is most conducive for citrus fruits which also happen to be the main agricultural produce here. It is full of history and historical places. The area of present Hoshiarpur District was also part of Indus Valley Civilization. In the journeying, seven early Stone Age sited a Atbarapur, Rehmanpur and Takhni, 30-40 km north of Hoshiarpur District in the foothills of Shiwalik, have been revealed where the stone artifacts have been found. Besides these excavations, among the archaeological remains in the Hoshiarpur District, the remains of temples at Dholbaha and especially the local legends throw valuable light on the ancient history of the district.

The legends associate several places in the district with Pandavas. Dasua is mentioned in epic of Mahabharata as the seat of Raja Virata in whose services the Pandavas remained for thirteen years during their exile. Bham, about 11 km west of Mahalpur is said to be the place where the Pandavas passed their emigre. Lasara, about 19 km north Jaijon, also contains a stone temple stated to date back to the time of Pandavas. According to the chinese pilgrim, Hieun Tsang, the area of Hoshiarpur was dominated by a tribe of Chandrabansi Rajputs, who maintained an independent existence for centuries before the Muhammadan subjugation.

Hari-k-Patan

Harike, or Hari-ke-Pattan, as it is often called is a road journey of about 40 km from Moga and the nearest railhead is Hoshiarpur (60 km). It is located on the banks of Wetland which can be viewed from the Gurdwara on the bank of Harike Lake. Harike wetland is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in Northern India.
